Our Beliefs
Our Mission
- Evangelize the lost
- Worship God
- Disciple believers
- Show compassion
We believe that our mission is what Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19-20, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
To accomplish this mission, we believe that God has given us power through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, as described in Acts 1:8, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
AG Core Doctrines
There are 4 core doctrines of the Assemblies of God, which we affirm at Butler Assembly of God.
These 4 core doctrines are:
- Salvation
- Divine Healing
- Baptism in the Holy Spirit
- Second Coming
The doctrine of salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus, as taught in the Bible, is the core of our faith. We believe that everyone needs to be saved, and our mission to go into all the world and make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20) is reflective of this core doctrine.
We also believe that Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection provide for divine healing, which is available to all believers today. We actively seek God for healing as we pray for each other and pray corporately as commanded in the Bible. (James 5:14-15)
To accomplish our mission and to live a life pleasing to God, we believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. This is known as “The Promise of the Father” which Jesus spoke about in Acts 1:4. We believe God first fulfilled His promise at Pentecost as described in Acts 2:4. This power from God, evidenced by speaking in tongues (an unlearned language), is still available and should be sought after by all believers.
As the culture of the world consistently runs farther away from God, and there is a prevalent sense of uncertainty, we cling to the “Blessed Hope” (Titus 2:13) that Jesus is coming back. While as believers we can find comfort in His return, we also know that our mission to go into all the world and make disciples is more important than ever.
